The emergence and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care presents new opportunities to transform aspects of care and administrative processes, as well as augment specialized supports such as image analysis, medical device automation, and patient monitoring. As AI systems and tools continue to evolve and become more commonplace, it is important to mitigate potential risks and challenges that impact patient trust and the trustworthiness of the tools.
This Roundtable will discuss the potential for AI in health care while considering and scrutinizing the associated risks that come with that potential. The Roundtable will be organized around priority issue areas including, the ethical use and trustworthiness of AI in health care, how the consumer is being considered in the development of and use of algorithms, and what actions are needed from a policy standpoint to create an environment of innovation that is transparent, safe and accountable.
This Roundtable is scheduled to take place in early 2024.
